Emigration Record — Leaving Denmark

Many Danish emigration records (records of people leaving Denmark) are available online. Many records can be found here: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Denmark_Emigration_and_Immigration

Records for some people who left Vejle, where Lauritz Christensen lived, can be found in this list:
"Emigration Records From Vejle 1879-1887"
Search the Web for this list and how to use it.

Here is a transcription of the data for Lauritz:
Christensen, Lauritz, Stubberup [Stobberup], Løsning, 19-04-1880
     ID Code: V7984A0618
Last place of residence: Stubberup [Stobberup]
     Date of registration: 19-04-1880
     Name: Christensen, Lauritz
     Parish: Løsning
     Contract No.: 33
     County: Vejle
     Contract litra: Mouritzen C
     Residence contract: Stobberup, Løsning Sogn

Lauritz purchased his ticket from two agents in Vejle, the Mouritzen Brothers, who represented HAPAG (the Hamburg-America Line), which operated the SS Frisia.

One authority says this about the emigration process: "Emigrants usually departed within a day or two of registration and would have been transmigrants, meaning that they would have departed on a 'feeder ship' to a major emigration port to embark on a transatlantic ship to North America. The passage time for such a transmigrant, from Vejle to North America would be about 2 to 2-1/2 weeks +/- a day or so."

In the case of Lauritz, he may have taken a "feeder ship" from Vejle to Hamburg, or perhaps he traveled overland, such as by train. He registered in Denmark on Monday, 19 April 1880 and arrived in New York City on Wednesday, 5 May 1880, a total of 16 days.
