Arend Hellmers

Arend Helmers was a merchant seaman. From the Bremen, Germany Sailors Registry, 1837-1873 (Bremer Seeleuteregister, 1837-1873), it appears that he served as early as November 1822. The records show that he eventually served on at least 24 voyages, primarily as a cook.

A summary of his work as a seaman for the years 1822-1837 can be found here.

His work for the years 1838-1852 can be found here.

The three sons of Arend Hellmers also worked as seamen. Records of the work of the three can be found in the Bremen, Germany Sailors Registry, 1837-1873 (Bremer Seeleuteregister, 1837-1873) and the Bremen, Germany Ships Crew Lists, 1821-1873 (Bremer Musterungslisten der Schiffe, 1821-1873). The original records are held by the Staatsarchiv Bremen.
