Note: This marriage is also recorded in L'Heritage, vol.16, no.61, January 1993, Marriage Book I-St. Bernard Parish, LA, pg 47, as follows: On 4 June 1898 were married Henry B. Vallary of New Orleans, LA and Mrs. Margaret Hier (widow of Wm. Schezinger) both of Louisiana by Albert Nunez, Justice of the Peace of St. Bernard Parish, LA. Signed: H. B. Vallary and Margaret Hier. Witnesses signed: Fred Appe; Willie Appe and Henry Simmons.
Note: If this is the correct marriage for this couple, it occurred 14 years after the birth of their first child.
The 1920 census [H-CEN-0176] states they were married 25 years, each married twice, 8 children, 5 living.Note: The 1910 census indicates that Henry and his wife were both in their second marriage and had been married for 25 years. This calculates to being married about 1885, for which no record has been found. The question remains as to why they were only officially married in 1898. Perhaps they had a common law marriage and were only officially married later.
