March 2006 visit to Dusenbach, Germany

In March 2006, Norm and Pat Hellmers and their son Jeffrey Hellmers visited some of the places associated with Philipp Neff and his ancestors. They visited Dusenbach, Höchst im Oldenwald, and several other towns in which the Neff ancestors lived.

The tiny village of Dusenbach is where Philipp Neff was born in 1832. It retains much of its historical character. Many houses and outbuildings have been restored and would appear much as they did when Philipp lived there over 150 years ago.

Norm and Pat with relatives in Dusenbach. In Dusenbach we visited with Hanna Mohr, widow of Philipp Neff's great-grandnephew, Heinrich Mohr. Here we are in front of Hanna’s house. In back: Hanna’s niece Corinne Orth, Hanna, and Norm. In front: Lilly Orth (holding her doll) and Pat.

Despite a bit of rain, Hanna gave us a wonderful walking tour of old Dusenbach.

Pat and Norm with Trudl Mohr in Gonsenheim.
We had a delightful visit with Trudl Mohr in Gonsenheim. She is the widow of Philipp Neff's great-grandnephew, Wilhelm Mohr. Trudl took us to lunch at a wonderful Greek restaurant, Zum Gutenberg, near her home.

In Gonsenheim we visited with Kerstin Mohr, her husband Thomas Becker and their daughters, Anabel (right) and Simone. They took us into Mainz for a wonderful evening.
