in The Daily Picayune, 3 October 1906

Philipp Neff died on Tuesday, 2 October 1906. The following day, an article about his life was published in The Daily Picayune, the most important newspaper in New Orleans. Below are the first page of the paper that day and the article, which appeared on page 10.

The news article about Philipp Neff provides interesting insights into his life. Also, there were a few mistakes.

His home was 3107 Dauphine, not 3167 Clouet. He moved to the Ninth Ward in about 1855 or 1856. He was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, and he had come to New Orleans approximately fifty-two years ago (actually closer to fifty-one).

He was a cabinet-maker and eventually went into business for himself, being responsible for the construction of numerous houses and larger buildings as well.

He built the schoolhouse for St. Vincent de Paul Church (apparently not Sts. Peter and Paul as the article states) and the Bethlehem Orphan Asylum.

There was a funeral at his home, then a service at St. Paul's Evangelical Church, followed by interrment in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
