IMMIGRATION: He came to the United States about 1854 according to the 1900 census and about 1855 according to his obituary. He has not been found in the immigration records at Ancestry.com, but if he came alone, as he apparently did, he might be difficult to find. Several first names and soundexed last names seem possible, but none could be determined to have all information close enough to consider.

MARRIAGE: Civil marriage record (license); 1853-1877; State of Louisiana, Parish of Orleans, Seventh Justice of the Peace; 6 Feb 1860, pp 716-717; Microfilm VEH678, New Orleans Public Library, New Orleans LA. [H-CVM-0031]
Note: The marriage license indicates that it was issued to "C. Adams, Pastor." One witness who signed the license was J. Ottmann [perhaps Johann Hermann Ottmann, who was a sponsor for the baptism of their first child]. (This person's relationship to Catharina Maria Ottmann is not known.)
