Das Artland Heinrich Landwehr's younger brother Gerhard remained in Germany, marrying Katharine Korfhage. They had five children, the oldest of whom was named Dietrich, born 9 October 1877. Dietrich obviously loved the beauty of the area in which he lived. He wrote a poem about it, which he simply called "Das Artland." |

This artistic and
sensitive young man served in the German army in World War I. While
fighting in France, he was killed on 1 May 1915 at a place known as
Priesterwald. A World War I memorial in Badbergen includes his name:
"D. Landwehr, 1.5.15, in Priesterwald." |
