Valentine August “Val” Ticker, III
After graduating from Nicholls, Val attended LSUNO for two
semesters. Being only 17 at the time, he decided to go to work and defer his
education for a while. His first job was with Bell South. During this time, he
joined the Louisiana Air National Guard. After returning from active duty, he
met the young woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
Val and MaryAnn were married in 1967. Val switched jobs that
year and began his career at NOPSI. After getting married, he knew he was ready
to continue his formal education. He received his Bachelor of Science degree
from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in 1977. By that time he and MaryAnn had
two children and had been married for 10 years. NOPSI became Entergy, New
Orleans, and Val continued working there for 33 years, taking an early
retirement in 2000.
Val and MaryAnn were blessed with two daughters, who have
given them six wonderful grandchildren—four boys and two girls. They lived in
Metairie from 1967 to 2003, until moving to Covington, Louisiana.
They enjoy traveling and spending time with family and
grandchildren and say they have been known to spend some spare time at a few
area casinos.
