Carol
Ann Chauff Mercier
Eddie (Nicholls ‘59) and I were married two weeks after
graduation on June 17, 1961. I worked for the Federal Reserve Bank
until I became pregnant with our son, Mark, who was born in 1963. Our
daughter, Christine, was born in 1965. We moved to Chalmette in 1964
and built three homes there over the years.
I was a stay-at-home mom until 1980 when I went to work for a health
insurance
company. I worked my way up to Supervisor, Office Manager, and then
Director
of Administration. I retired in May of 2005.
We have two wonderful grandsons, Trey and Christian, whom we adore.
In August 2005 we evacuated to Ruston, Louisiana, for Katrina. Our
house, our son’s house, our daughter’s house, and the
entire parish of St. Bernard flooded on August, 29, 2005. We had no one
to stay with, so we decided to stay here in Ruston. Our son (who is
divorced) lives with us, and our daughter and her family live across
the street.
I love being retired and being near our children and grandchildren. I
do miss my brother, my nieces, our friends, and our way of life. We
have a motor home and travel frequently, so we visit them as often as
possible. We have great neighbors, and we like to walk our dogs
together for exercise.
My hobbies are traveling, cooking, sewing, and reading.
I am a Eucharistic Minister at our church and enjoy being involved with
church projects and the many wonderful people that we have met there.
