Sue Jones Simmons, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away on
Monday, June 17, 2013, of pancreatic cancer. Sue, a native of
Trussville, Alabama, lived in New Orleans and Lafayette, Louisiana.
Before retiring to Fairhope in the 1980s, she was an Assistant
Professor of Education at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. She
held a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and a
master's degree from the University of Tennessee.
Sue is survived by James Carroll Simmons, her husband of 39 years. She
was predeceased by her parents, Boyer and Gwendolyn Jones, and her
brother, Robert E. Jones. She is also survived by her sister, Ann J.
Bradford, a nephew, Wade J. Bradford of Gulf Shores, Alabama, nieces,
Robin Jones Rogers of Murphy, North Carolina, Dara Jones Smith of Ocean
Springs, Mississippi, and Lisa Bradford Hansen, of Daphne, Alabama, and
ten great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Fairhope United Methodist Church on
Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family
requests donations be given in Sue's memory to the Fairhope United
Methodist Church, 155 South Section Street, Fairhope, AL 36532 or to
The Friends of the Fairhope Public Library, P. O. Box 633, Fairhope, AL
36533.
