Diane Margaret Virciglio Grieve
Following
graduation Diane joined the New Orleans retail market on Canal Street
at D.H. Holmes and Maison Blanche Department Stores.
In January 1963 she was persuaded by her older sister, Patricia, to
enlist in the U.S. Navy with her. Although her sister decided in boot
camp that the Navy life was not for her, Diane completed her three year
and three month enlistment in Pensacola, Florida, the home of the Blue
Angels. The Navy, however, continued to be a part of her life.
In 1966 she married Gary Grieves, her “sweetheart sailor.” She returned
to New Orleans to work at the Pan American Insurance Company, while
Gary was in Viet Nam. In 1968, they moved to Gary’s home state, New
Jersey, and settled in Hackensack where Diane worked for 17 years at
Truecolor Custom Photo Labs.
In 1971 their son, Keith, was born. Now a MMSC—Machinist Mate Senior
Chief—attached to the submarine fleet, Keith is “Career Navy.” He and
his wife, Carla, have three children. Diane and Gary’s daughter,
Heather Lee, was born in 1979, and now has her own son. Heather is a
physical trainer.
Diane began a new career in 1990 as a licensed practical nurse. Single
now, Diane moved to what she describes as the “paradise of Central
Florida.” She lives in The Villages, a very active senior community.
