NICHOLLS CLASS OF 1961
Francis T. Nicholls High School
New Orleans, Louisiana

1960-61 Football team

Thanks to Ron Chapoton (Class of 1961) we have a video of movie highlights of the 1960 Nicholls game against Redemptorist High School. Nicholls won in an 18-0 upset. It was also homecoming.

In addition to game highlights, the movies include presentation of the homecoming court at halftime. Following movies of the game, there are views of the team practicing in the athletic field behind the gymnasium and parts of another game. Note that there is no sound.

The video is available here:

A few comments:
Nicholls is in the white jerseys (although they got darker as the game on the muddy City Park Stadium field went on). Watch especially for No. 40 (Ron Chapoton, who scored twice) and No. 20 (Nolan LeBlanc, who scored once). No. 10 was quarterback Oscar Wible. At the end of the game, the team appears to carry coach Don Fortier on their shoulders.

All of the players were identified (with some misspellings) in the program:

An article in The Times-Picayune described the game:

That night was also Nicholls homecoming. A photograph in the Rebel Yell identified the Homecoming Court (with some mistakes):
