We are pleased to share the three
volumes of our student newspaper that chronicled our years at Francis
T. Nicholls High School. The Rebel Yell was published by the journalism students of Austin Wilson. They met in the backroom of classroom 219 to write, edit, and lay out the pages before turning them over to Simmons Press. Printed on high quality paper, the newspapers were designed to be kept, and they look good 50 years later. As best it could, The Rebel Yell served as a yearbook. School Principal Daniel Allain said he felt obligated to turn down requests from many students who wished for a school yearbook. He said he could not, in good conscience, offer something for sale that all students would not be able to purchase. The Rebel Yells posted here were saved and scanned by Norm Hellmers, who spent his adult life far from the hurricane floodwaters that claimed the souvenirs of many of our classmates. The newspapers were scanned and saved as pdf files. These files are large and may take a while to download, depending on the speed of your internet connection. The files will work best if they are saved on your computer. The pdf files can be opened using the Adobe Reader, which is likely already on your computer. If not, it can be downloaded here.
