Roat family ancestry:
As time permits, I will post information here related to the history of the Roat and related families. In 1993 I put together a brief history of the Roat family ancestry, titled The Roat Family of New York and Michigan. I recently revised it to bring it up to date.

The 27-page document can be viewed or downloaded as a pdf file here. This is a large file (12,653k) and could take a while to download, depending on the speed of your Internet connection. The document can be saved on your computer or can be printed out.

A pdf file can be read or downloaded with the free Adobe reader. If you do not have this program on your computer, the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded at no charge here: https://get.adobe.com/reader/

Roat family photographs
In time, I hope to be able to scan the Roat family photographs that I and others have so that they can be shared with anyone who is interested. The photographs that have been scanned thus far can be found here.

Roat family documents
There are many Roat family-related documents that I eventually hope to place online. A few of them can be seen here.

Nellie Irene Bates Thomas, the mother of Katharine Thomas Roat, was a remarkable woman who loved her family and loved life.
     • DIARIES - Nellie kept diaries or daily journals for about 13 years of her life (1912-13, 1920-1932). She was aged 51 to 70 during those years. The 1912-13 diary only covers December 1912, January, February, June, July, and August of 1913. No diary has been found for the year 1921. To read transcriptions of the diaries, click here.
     • POETRY - One of her favorite pasttimes was writing poetry. She wrote about her observations and life's events, large and small. All of her known poems have now been gathered into one document. A PDF file (2,389k) is here. A Word file (1,309k) is here. Scans of the original poems can be found here.
     • COOKBOOK - Nellie also enjoyed cooking and baking and she gathered her recipes into cookbooks. The last of her cookbooks has been preserved. In 1937, Nellie copied her favorite recipes from the 1915 cookbook she made on Case's Island in Lake Fenton. A PDF file is here.

Lake Fenton Memories
An illustrated history of the Roat family cottages on Case's Island and Log Cabin Point on Lake Fenton in Genesee County, Michigan. (A PDF version of the history is here. A Word version is here.)
