the SS Campania The S. S. Campania was built by Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering Company, Glasgow, Scotland, in 1893 for the Cunard Line. Data on the ship includes: 12,950 gross tons; 622 (bp) feet long; 65 feet wide; steam triple expansion engines, twin screw, and service speed 21 knots. The ship accommodated 2,000 passengers (600 first class, 400 second class, 1,000 third class). It operated primarily on the Liverpool-New York service. In 1914, it was sold to the British Admiralty and was renamed the HMS Campania. It was rebuilt as an aircraft carrier and was sunk following a collision in the Firth of Forth in Scotland in 1918.
