The ancestors and descendants of the Hellmers-Neff family
The Hellmers-Neff family is descended from eight individuals who emigrated to New Orleans in the middle of the 19th century. They were all from what is today Germany. Each has his or her own story: their youth, how they came to America, and what their lives were like in New Orleans. Information is also available on their ancestors and descendants. Please note that the narrative information is not copyrighted, but if used elsewhere, the author, Norman Hellmers, should be acknowledged. The ancestor and descendant data may be freely used. All of the data is subject to additions and corrections.

A Brief History of the Hellmers Family

It includes information on the Hellmers-Neff ancestors and updated information on the 7 children of Milton and Juanita Neff Hellmers, their 29 granchildren, and more than 50 great-grandchildren. In time, I hope to be able to scan the Hellmers family photographs that I have so that they can be shared with anyone who is interested. The photograph at the very top of this page shows the family home that M. J. Hellmers built in about 1922. He took the photo himself in about 1924. The photograph to the left is Juanita Neff Hellmers and her seven children taken about 1955. You can see a larger version of this photograph here. I would welcome hearing from anyone who has any old pictures of the family.
