Suggestions on finding an obituary in GenealogyBank that appeared in The Times-Picayune:

     1. Learn the date and page of the newspaper from an obituary index.

     2. Go to http://www.genealogybank.com and sign in.

     3. At the opening page, beneath “Historical Newspapers,” click on “Newspaper Archives.”

     4. A list of search boxes shows up. In the box that says “Include keywords” enter just the one word “picayune” (no quote marks). This will sort for both The Daily Picayune and The Times-Picayune. In the “Date range” box enter the date of the obituary. Click on “Begin Search.”

     5. This will take you to that day’s newspaper. Check the entries to be sure you have the correct date and newspaper. Click on the first item that comes up. Don’t worry about what it is.

     6. Once that comes up, on the left you will see “List all pages in this issue.” Click on that.

     7. On the left, all of the page numbers will be displayed. Click on the page you want. Search that page for the obituary you are seeking using the column number. The entire page can be saved as a PDF image. You can later crop the PDF to save just the part you want as a JPG.
