New Orleans (Orleans Parish) Louisiana Newspapers New Orleans, as one of the largest cities in the United States in the 19th century, had a variety of political, geographic, and ethnic communities. For this reason, there were many newspapers that served the city throughout its history. Newspapers are an important source for obituaries and death notices as well as news articles. Online sources for The Times-Picayune The most important newspaper in the history of New Orleans is The Times-Picayune (previously known as The Daily Picayune). For many years it served as the "newspaper of record" for the city. Various years of the newspaper are available from different sources.
