In Mr. Emile P. Schmidt's Algebra II class, every student was required to prepare a notebook of algebra problems. Mr. Schmidt gave precise directions for the notebook and wrote everything that was to go into it on the blackboard. Much of it had to do with how to set up equations to solve word problems.
Of his Algebra II notebook, Norman Hellmers says: "I kept this notebook because it was useful. When I was preparing for the Graduate Record Examination to get into graduate school, I used this notebook to review how to solve word problems. Mr. Schmidt was an outstanding math teacher."
